Butler to Return as Alaskas Top Doctor

first_imgJay Butler is returning to his job as the state’s top doctor.Download AudioHealth and Social Services Commissioner Valerie Davidson says in a release that Butler will be both the state’s chief medical officer and director of the Division of Health.Davidson also announced Jon Sherwood will be deputy commissioner for Medicaid and Health Care Policy.Both appointments are effective immediately but subject to legislative approval.Butler was previously the chief medical officer from 2007-09. He left to work for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.Before he returned to the state position, he was senior director of the Division of Community Health Services at the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium in Anchorage.Sherwood is a 25-year veteran of the state health department.last_img
