Not to be outdone by Microsoft with its Xbox One S and Project Scorpio announcements during the Xbox E3 Briefing, Sony is expected to unveil a slim version of the PlayStation 4 as well as provide more information regarding the PlayStation 4 Neo at this year’s Tokyo Game Show. This is the plan according to Wall Street Journal reporter, Takashi Mochizuki, who revealed the information on Twitter.Sony analyst says “PlayStation 4 Slim,” not just “Neo,” due by Tokyo Game Show in Sept, report with @YukaKoshino https://t.co/XuYikWC4rh— Takashi Mochizuki (@mochi_wsj) June 29, 2016We actually reported about a rumored PS4 Slim back in January of 2015, but this news still comes as a bit of a surprise. When the current PS4 was released in 2013, some joked that it already was the slim PS4 given its sleek and compact design. However, we are nearly three years into the PS4’s lifecycle, so there is little doubt that Sony has figured out how to make the system smaller. Truth be told, it was inevitable that the PS4 would get a slimmer model given how every PlayStation system before it also got the same treatment around this same time.As for the PS4 Neo, Sony officially announced it the week before E3. This was done as a way for the company to focus on its upcoming games line-up during their E3 event instead of hardware. We know some of the basics about the PS4 Neo — how it will run games and media at 4K resolution and offer higher frame rates, but we don’t know anything about its hardware. The Tokyo Game Show should hopefully shed some light on this subject.
