first_imgÚdarás has hit backÚdarás na Gaeltachta has hit back at Sinn Féin over its job creation record in Gaoth Dobhair following revelations that more than 700 jobs have been lost in the area in the past few years.Representatives of the political party led by Pearse Doherty TD had obtained the figures through a series of Dail questions. In a statement to Donegal Daily Údarás said it recognises “that the Gaoth Dobhair area has been hit badly in relation to job losses over the last number of year”. Those job losses, it claimed, occurred mainly due to companies restructuring their business model, consolidating operations, reducing costs, and in some cases transferring manufacturing operations to low cost economies in other parts of the world. The statement went on:”The whole country, not just the West Donegal Gaeltacht, experienced large job losses during the economic downturn.“Údarás did all in its power to save those jobs. And we continue in our efforts to attract replacement enterprises, jobs and investment to the area.“Earlier this year Údarás announced that it was to support the creation of 300 new jobs and invest a total of €4.7 million over the next three years on the Gaoth Dobhair Business Park to support further enterprise development, employment creation, and carry out a capital redevelopment programme on a number of its the properties. “Some of those jobs and new projects have already come on stream. The development of Áislann Ghaoth Dobhair and the substantial investments and expansions made by companies such as Randox, RAP, Euroflex and Irish Pressings over the past few years are all testament to this work.“Údarás has a strong track record in job creation in the west Donegal, and would like to get on with our job, which is trying to improve the lives of the Donegal Gaeltacht community and support the Irish language in so doing.” ÚDARÁS HITS BACK AT SINN FÉIN OVER JOB RECORD was last modified: November 20th, 2015 by John2Share this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window) Tags:donegalDonegal DailyGaoth Dobhairjobs recordÚdarás na Gaeltachtalast_img
