first_imgThe pucks will drop on the 2015 Crystal Cup on February 6 and the action will go through the 9th.The fee to enter is $200 per team, and forms can be picked up and returned at the North Peace Leisure Pool. Organizers have also finalized the majority of the events that will be taking place, including local and NHL alumni making an appearance throughout the weekend as Fort St. John product Gerard Dicaire will be on hand, as will former Vancouver Canucks defenseman Dave Babych.“We have sealed out NHL alumni and local alumni for the event. Out on the lake we’re going to be accompanied this year by local celeb Gerard Dicaire. A lot of people don’t realize he was drafted by the Buffalo Sabres and was on Tampa, he didn’t play any games, but he was on Tampa when they won the cup,” explained president of the Crystal Cup Neil Evans. “Also good friend of the Crystal Cup Dave Babych is going to come back. He was here two years ago and loved the event. He’s going to spend the whole weekend with us and there will be a special prize with the kids tournament for all entries. We’re going to draw two names out of a hat and they’re going to go on a helicopter ride with Babych.”The entertainment for the evenings of Friday and Saturday have also been finalized as well as Mr. Mikes staff on hand in the gardens throughout the weekend.- Advertisement -“Starting Friday night in the gardens we have local band Road Worn, and the Montney Coulees on Saturday night so it’s going to be a real cool event. We’re building an ice bar for the Mr. Mikes crew in the gardens so it will be a really cool atmosphere,” Evans said.Registration is off to a slow start but that’s par for the course based on previous years, but he stresses potential teams should move fast as organizers need to put a schedule together for the weekend.“Registration is going a little slow but that’s predicted. We only have seven teams registered right now but everyone we talk to are planning on putting in a team,” Evans stated. “It’s happened every year before this that we see this huge influx come registration date. A warning to all that registration is the 30th and that’s it. There’s going to be no leeway or extension as we have to plan the schedules and get everything else ready. If you’re planning on getting a team in do it now.”Advertisementlast_img
