Seeking My Dream headlines trophy run

first_imgThe top distance horses in training will face the starter at Caymanas Park today in the grade one feature for the Legal Light Trophy over 1820 metres on the Win Dem Wheelz Grooms’ Appreciation Day 11-race programme.Although the race has attracted a small field of six, it is embedded with quality. Present are the 2015 ‘Horse of the Year’, SEEKING MY DREAM, with four-time champion Omar Walker again in the saddle; last year’s Superstakes winner, FRANFIELD, under champion jockey Shane Ellis; as well as the island’s top stayer, PERFECT NEIGHBOUR; and the progressive American filly, LONG RUNNING TRAIN, who bids for a hat-trick of wins. The class of the principals is unquestionable, yet I believe victory will go to the Wayne DaCosta trained SEEKING MY DREAM, who shoulders topweight of 57.0kg and will be allowing weight all around.BEST HORSE IN THE COUNTRYBy virtue of his impressive win in the inaugural running of the $13.5 million Supreme Ventures Diamond Mile on December 5 last year, the 4-y-o chestnut colt by Seeking The Glory out of the 2008 ‘Horse of the Year’, Alsafra, has established himself as the best horse in the country and despite his narrow loss to FRANFIELD in the recent Chairman’s Trophy over 1500 metres, he can definitely rebound with a win. With little early pace in the race, SEEKING MY DREAM (working well) represents the controlling speed and coming from the number one post position on the rails, should have enough in the last furlong to stave off stable companion PERFECT NEIGHBOUR and FRANFIELD.Other firm fancies on the card are STAR OF DAVID in the Grooms’ Association of Jamaica Trophy over the straight five course; PERFECT FLYER to capture the closing Win Dem Wheels Trophy race ahead of MISS DOROTHY; as well as AGAKHAN IN the third and the front running PUDDY POOH in the overnight allowance race for the Roy Hamilton Trophy, this in recognition of one of the five veteran grooms to be honoured by the Azar Group on the day.last_img read more

Manchester City outcast Samir Nasri offered to Fenerbahce

first_img1 Samir Nasri Manchester City midfielder Samir Nasri has been offered to Fenerbahce, according to reports in Turkey. The 29-year-old does not seem to have a future at the Etihad after being shipped out on loan to Sevilla last season. Now another move away appears to be on the cards and it has been suggested that he could end up in Turkey.According to NTV Spor, Fenerbahce have been offered the former Arsenal man and they are currently weighing up whether or not they can afford him.It is unlikely that any switch to Istanbul would be permanent as his wages would probably cost them too much without some assistance from City. That would mean a loan deal makes most sense, although Galatasaray and Besiktas are also considering taking him to Turkey.last_img

Five keys for the Raiders against Lions, Matthew Stafford

first_imgOAKLAND — Sure, it’s a dump. But to the Raiders, for five more games anyway, it’s home. The Raiders will have been away an unprecedented 48 days when they host the Detroit Lions Sunday at the Coliseum, having last played there on Sept. 15 when there was still a baseball infield and Patrick Mahomes was leading the Kansas City Chiefs to a 28-10 win.“I’m excited, man. I can’t wait,” Raiders safety Karl Joseph said. “It feels like it’s been forever. We’ve been on the road so long I think I …last_img

Mattel’s New Web-Enabled “Avatar” Toys Will Offer Augmented Reality

first_imgWhy Tech Companies Need Simpler Terms of Servic… Related Posts Although this isn’t the first time we’ve seen augmented reality integrated into a product, this new way to “play with toys” is notable for being among the first attempts to integrate technology in what is clearly a mainstream consumer product. And a product for kids, at that. With each new generation, children are becoming increasing comfortable with technology starting at earlier ages. Where today’s kids may tote around toy computers, it seems the upcoming generation will have even more options for interacting with the web-enabled world, such as with these new internet-connected toys. Assuming the Avatar toys are popular (and since they appeal to the comic-obsessed adult fans too, they probably will be), we’ll likely see more augmented reality-powered toys like these launched in the near future. If you think augmented reality is just a bunch of hype with no usable applications as of yet, think again. Major toy manufacturer Mattel has just announced a new line of products tied to the upcoming 3-D adventure movie “Avatar” directed by James Cameron. While normally we wouldn’t cover toys here at ReadWriteWeb, there is something special about this new lineup: these toys are integrated with augmented reality. By way of a 3-D web tag which can be scanned with any computer’s webcam, the new toys are linked to an online world of content which makes them “come alive” in an entirely new way. The “Internet of Things” Becomes Child’s PlayIn the past, we’ve looked at companies building the “internet of things,” where we’ve discovered how everyday objects can be linked to the web using sensors, RFID, and even Twitter. In many cases, the applications of such technology are practical, such as with IBM’s investment in food supply chain tracking or the web-connected bathroom scale. But web-enabled objects don’t have to simply be useful – they can also be fun. The Nabaztag, for example, is an adorable little rabbit that sits on your desk delivering ambient information through lights and sounds according to changes and updates to information found on the web. But now “augmented reality” is moving beyond the conceptual and practical stages meant to inform (or merely amuse) technology enthusiasts and is reaching out to a new generation: today’s web-savvy children. About Mattel’s New ToysAccording to Mattel, each action figure, vehicle, and creature in their new Avatar toy lineup will come with a 3-D web tab called an i-TAG which can be scanned using any computer webcam. After doing so, special content unique to that product will be revealed onscreen. The content will vary by toy, but will include things like biographical information, additional images, and 3D animated models showing off the action figures’ “engaging, evading, or defending moves.” Even better, scanning two of the i-TAGs will reveal an onscreen animation showing 3D images interacting with each other. Artificial Intelligence and the World of Motion Design

first_imgLooking for more industry insights? Check these out.Exciting New Prospects for Lighting Your Future SetTop Alternatives to Premiere Pro in 2019 — Free and PaidDo Creative Agencies Need a Creative Director of Video?Key Concepts for Incorporating Game Theory into FilmmakingThe Video Camera Trends Currently Re-Shaping the Industry Motion design is already a tough industry to conquer, and now there’s a new threat on the horizon — artificial Intelligence. The motion graphics landscape is changing, whether it’s new trends, techniques, or fancy plugins. We can all agree that it’s tough to keep up with this shifting environment, and it cycles people out constantly. By this I mean that if you don’t learn new styles and keep up with the trends as a digital artist, you can potentially lose clients and fail to gain new ones.Artificial Intelligence has already replaced many jobs, and it feels like in this fast-paced world, there’s no way AI’s growth will slow down. Specifically looking into motion design, AI has been around for years and isn’t going anywhere. I don’t mean to discredit the amazing work AI has provided to the world of animation — or even society at large. I’m here to start a conversation about the future of VFX and motion design.Jiayi Chong is a significant person when you’re talking about AI and animation. He was a technical director/developer at Pixar for nine years, working on films such as Toy Story 3, Wall-E, and Up. Chong’s contribution to the world of 3D and 2D animation was a program he developed called Midas Creature. It’s can animate complex objects that otherwise would take hours — if not days — to do by hand. There are also programs that help run simulations for water, skin, clothing, and walk cycles. These innovations have saved hours of painstaking work for motion designers and VFX artists. They’ve probably minimized the number of mental breakdowns people have had while trying to get water to flow naturally.AI has made some remarkable achievements. For example, the Samsung AI Lab was able to animate faces using only one picture. When I first saw this, I freaked out because watching the Mona Lisa talk and move around is very strange. A second example is a video by YouTuber Ben Marriott, who animates a still photo with Ebsynth. It uses an input video and keyframe (still) to add movement to any picture, and the results are pretty impressive. A final example is the new Auto Reframe from Adobe. Re-editing a video from 16×9 to IGTV or Instagram Stories is no longer tedious, thanks to Auto Reframe. So, what does AI mean for the future of our industry? Well, we all expect it to become more integrated into our workflows. AI will continue taking tasks off our to-do list — a trend certain to continue. Because of the human aspect of design, AI won’t completely take over our craft. But, realistically, I do see AI taking over small short animations within the next five to ten years. We can all agree that, eventually, the development of AI will become so advanced, all we’ll have to do is type in what we want and, within seconds, get the result we want. For now, the creativity will be left to us. In our current state, AI is here to collaborate and help carry out our ideas. Until the distant future, we don’t have much to worry about, but it’s on its way.last_img read more

Structures around Puri Jagannath temple torn down

first_imgThe Puri district administration carried out the demolition of structures flanking Meghanad Prachir, the massive compound wall of the 12th century Shree Jagannath Temple on Monday.Although the State Cabinet had recently approved a proposal to make land up to 75 metres from the wall encroachment-free, the administration claimed Monday’s drive was not connected with the decision.“The Archaeological Survey of India had requested us to clear all structures adjacent to Meghanad Prachir and there was an Orissa High Court order in this regard. All private and government structures will be demolished,” said Balwant Singh, Puri District Collector.“We have taken a decision not to touch old establishments and structures having monument value,” said Mr. Singh.Hundreds of police personnel, along with magistrates, were deployed to avoid any untoward incident that might have occurred during the demolition drive. Structures including shoe-stands, shops, toilets, a police outpost and a government information centre were pulled down. Administration assured that an alternative area will be identified for these establishments. The centuries-old compound wall is also an ASI protected structure. As per recent the State, all structures within 75 metres of the Jagannath Temple in Puri would be removed to ensure its safety and security, and for the convenience of the pilgrims.Submission of reportsThe State government had constituted a Commission of Inquiry comprising Justice B.P. Das, a retired judge of the Orissa High Court, on July 23, 2016, to submit a report for the better administration and governance of the temple. The Commission had submitted two interim reports on April 20, 2017 and December 07, 2017.The State had proposed to implement certain recommendations of the Commission from the first interim report which relate to the safety and improvement of the temple in the first phase.last_img read more

Allen’s Vulcan Productions, and CNN Films – drew Allison Williams, Lauren Bush Lauren, Sami Gayle, Claire Coffee, Jeff Zucker, John Hockenberry, Connie Chung, Holly Peterson, Cathie Black, Lesley Stahl and others to screen the film and support 10×10.
Using an innovative, demand-based theatrical distribution platform called Gathr, 438 screenings are currently being organized nationwide – with more than 37,000 tickets pre-reserved. New screening requests are coming in at a rate of about 40 per day. Through Gathr, anyone anywhere in the United States can crowdsource Girl Rising into their local movie theaters.Girl Rising has a traditional run through March 15th in New York at Cinema Village, and in Los Angeles at the Laemmle Theatre.Produced by award-winning former ABC News journalists of The Documentary Group and Paul G. Allen ’s Vulcan Productions, Girl Rising is powered by strategic founding partner, Intel Corporation, and global television distribution partner, CNN Films.“Girl Rising is about the formative impact education can have on a girl’s life,” said director, Richard E. Robbins. “Girl Rising’s nine stories represent millions of girls who deserve to go to school, but can’t. Thanks to the remarkable organizing efforts of people around the country, Girl Rising will be seen by thousands around the nation who’ve demanded a screening. This is a new model for impact filmmaking, and one we hope can help us get girls into school.”Each girl’s story is written by a renowned writer from her native country: Marie Arana, Edwidge Danticat, Mona Eltahawy, Aminatta Forna, Zarghuna Kargar, Maaza Mengiste, Sooni Taraporevala, Manjushree Thapa, and Loung Ung.“Intel’s extensive global education work has found a great marriage with 10×10 and its global social action campaign to educate and empower girls,” said Shelly Esque, vice president of Intel’s Corporate Affairs Group and president of the Intel Foundation. “We leveraged our relationships and resources beyond simply funding with the hope that our strengths, along with a non-profit, the creative industry, and NGOs, can together catalyze change and raise awareness to educate girls.”“Filmmakers often use movies to raise awareness about causes and issues, but our goal is to go a step beyond that and help the audience take action once they leave the theater,” said Paul G. Allen, founder of Vulcan Productions. “We believe in making films that make a difference, and we’re eager to see girls’ education gain momentum as a result of Girl Rising.”“This is an exciting moment for 10×10, which has built a movement around educating girls” said Holly Gordon, Executive Director of 10×10. “It is particularly poignant that we launched our campaign on the eve of International Day of the Girl, and will release Girl Rising – the centerpiece of our campaign – on the eve of International Women’s Day. The movement has matured, and as a result, we’ve been able to crowdsource Girl Rising into hundreds of movie theaters across the nation. I urge people to continue to request screenings, and turn awareness into action by supporting the 10×10 Fund for Girls Education.”The 10×10 Fund for Girls Education goes to 10×10′s high-impact network of non-profit partners and leaders in girls’ education: A New Day Cambodia, CARE, Girl Up/United Nations Foundation, Partners in Health, Plan International USA, Room to Read, and World Vision. The executive producers of Girl Rising are Tom Yellin, Holly Gordon, Paul G.
